Birdsfoot trefoil is a plant that can withstand drought well and is very cold resistant. The temperature limits of birdsfoot trefoil are very similar to those of alfalfa, although it can withstand water excess much better.

The best sowing period is spring, especially for monophyte meadows. There are no specific soil requirements, although birdsfoot trefoil reaches the best production level in fresh, essentially acid soils, in fresh and humid climates.
In preparing the soil for sowing, it is recommended that the this is levelled well, brought to a fine texture, due to the extremely small size of the seeds.

Sowing depth must be between 0.5 and 1.5 cm, and sowing must be followed by rolling to facilitate the contact between the seed and the soil, and the rising of water back to the surface by capillarity. The recommended seed ratio is 20-25 kg/ha.
The plant may be used as a harvesting crop or a seed production crop.
The forage produced is very high quality, as it is very fine, aromatic, and with a high nutritional content, with an overall production of 60 to 100 ql./ha of dry matter.
